Mt Airy Graffiti Report: May 15, 2012

This is my 3rd Mt Airy Graffiti Report, Report 1 is here, Report 2 is here.

Mt Airy’s graffiti problem continues, with dozens of new tags in the May 1 – May 16 period. Here is a map of the most recent tags.

The graffiti ranges from Cresheim Valley Drive to Upsal and Greene Streets. I have started to see graffiti in Chestnut Hill, including by the Starbucks near thte top of the Hill and the Garden & Flower shop at the bottom of the Hill near Cresheim Valley Drive.

The Mt Airy BID area was extensively tagged, including the following locations:

  • Trolley Car Diner
  • Brewers Outlet
  • Area around WAWA
  • Area near Lovett Library
  • Mt Airy USA
  • 6700 Block Germantown ave
  • Germantown and Good St

SEPTA was tagged at the R8 Upsal Station (Green & Upsal Streets), the R8 bridge over Cherokee Street, the R8 Bridge over W Mt Pleasant Ave and a utility box at the R7 MtAiry Station.

West Mt Airy graffiti locations not in BID or SEPTA jurisdiction include:

  • W Allens Lane and Bryan St
  • Greene St by SEPTA R8 Station
  • Emlen St and W Mt Pleasant Ave
  • 7100 Block Emlen st

East Mt Airy graffiti locations not in BID or SEPTA jurisdiction include:

  • E Gowen Ave and Boyer St
  • Stenton Ave and E Gowen Ave
  • Stenton Ave and E Mt Airy ave
  • Stenton Ave and E Mt Pleasant Ave
  • Stenton Ave and E Ellet Ave
  • E Upsal  St and Bellfield Ave
  • E Upsal St and Ardleigh St
  • 7100 Block Chew Ave

Here is a breakdown by area:

  • East Mt Airy        – 15 tags
  • West Mt Airy       – 15 tags
  • Mt Airy BID        –  15  tags
  • SEPTA                   –   24  tags
  • Chestnut Hill      –      3 tags

I will be attending the 14th Police District Town Watch meeting on Monday, 7 PM to discuss graffiti with Officer Johns and the Town Watch groups. I will also be attending the Mt Airy Bid Clean & Safe Committee meeting on May 24 to discuss Mt Airy graffiti.
